SONG FOR SUNDAY #26: Electric Wire Hustle – Perception

New Zealand’s Electric Wire Hustle provide us with this week’s Song For Sunday.

Minnie Riperton’s Inside My Love has been the basis of a myriad of hip hop tracks, from 2Pac and The Pharcyde to ATCQ and Slum Village and our Song For Sunday joined this illustrious group in 2009. Electric Wire Hustle, or EWH for short, are a group from New Zealand with a vibe that’s hard to consign to just one genre; soulful, funky and sometimes psychedelic hip hop/R&B is the closest you’ll get to a definition. But EWH don’t worry about labels and that was evident in Perception, a track off their debut eponymous album. The bassline, dripping in funk, runs through the song like a river with an infectious foot-tapping-inducing rhythm.

“Quite simply this is the best, most exciting R&B, soul, electronica, whatever you want to call it, record I’ve heard this year.” –¬†Okayplayer.com, on¬†Electric Wire Hustle’s debut album.
