28 Days Of Dilla #26: Jay Dee - Feelin Good

j-dilla

Day 26 is dedicated to possibly one of the rarest Dilla tracks out there, so much so it only exists in video form.

In a Dilla Breaks episode from October, a Slum Village cut called Feelin Good was discussed. The sample used was The Frank Cunimondo Trio’s cover of the classic “Feelin Good”. Probably not as big as Nina Simone’s, but it was still pretty popular. Dilla flipped it as an intro track for a Slum Village gig, adding some crazy swinging drums.

The footage taken of the performance is the only known example of it – there’s no file, nothing. Someone kindly looped it up on YouTube, which you can stream below but that’s all you’re getting. In a way, it’s a shame because we’d love to hear it in full but on the other hand, its rarity is probably for the best (if Rebirth Of Detroit is anything to go by).

Stream both videos below.
