It’s here. De La Soul’s brand new single “Get Away feat. The Spirit Of The Wu.
Goosebump-worthy shit. A few weeks after announcing the release of monthly singles and videos, De La Soul have dropped the first instalment as planned called Get Away. The feature is most definitely not a misnomer as the spirit of the Wu is represented by some carefully placed RZA vocal samples and that smooth Wu Tang feel you should all remember. And the best part? They’ve. Still. Got it! Posdnuos’ verses sound like they were cut straight from 1997 and Dave comes with equal fervour.
From Rolling Stone:
“I’ve always loved the ‘Intro’ on Disc Two of Wu-Tang Forever – this erie sample with no beat, that they only talked over,” De La Soul’s Posdnuos tells Rolling Stone. “I stumbled on the original sample while crate digging one day, took it straight to the lab and added drums. The feel is definitely gritty, hard and sounds like a Wu record, so out of inspirational respect, we included featuring ‘The Spirit of the Wu’ in the song title.”
“Get Away” will be on De La Soul’s forthcoming album, You’re Welcome, due late fall.
We’re stoked. Stream it below.
