The term “jazz fusion” has never meant as much as it does when it comes to Gizmo. The 22-year old bassist has been welding multiple genres together with ease and his debut shot his name and music to the top of our “favourite modern jazz” list. With his latest offering, The Middle, he has been joined by Okayplayer Records and Revive Music for the release. His work has already been described as “the middle ground between The Robert Glasper Experiment and Return To Forever” and we can see why, after hearing his unique take on Cyndi Lauper‘s“Girls Just Want To Have Fun”. The entire EP has been produced by Gizmo himself and features misty numbers such as White Walls and bluesy rock-influenced Wish You Were Here. It’s evident that Gizmo has attempted to push the boat out with his brand of jazz and continue the trend of infusing the world around us into his music and the outcome is aurally wonderful.
