In 1970, James Brown had established himself as the Godfather of Soul with “Get Up (I Feel Like Being A) Sex Machine”, “Funky Drummer” and “Super Bad” released in that year. The latter is the focus of this week’s Throwback Thursday with JB in top form and joined on stage by a dancer named Damita Jo Freeman who frequented the Soul Train show with her incredible robotics. Perhaps she was the Dancing Machine referred to by the Jackson 5 in 1974.
