Mac Miller jumps on a dope Flying Lotus beat and actually makes it work.
As FACT said, Mac Miller is an acquired taste and we couldn’t agree more. But he’s come into his own this time around with S.D.S. The beat, produced by Flying Lotus, is on a hazy vibe, similar to the beats he did for Blu and that Lil Wayne flip, and Miller accentuates it very well. Lyricism still won’t move admirers of rappers usually featuring on FlyLo’s stuff, they make a decent fit. This is the first of many works from Steven Ellison as he told Pitchfork of his plans for the near future. After producing Thundercat’s forthcoming LP, Flying Lotus will also be making a “cosmic experimental jazz” album, a new Captain Murphy tape (featuring beats from Madlib and Hudson Mohawke amongst others) and a Brainfeeder compilation. Woah.
