That’s the announcement we’ve heard from the man himself. The successor to The Dreamer, The Believer is set to be released at the start of next year. During an interview with MTV News promoting G.O.O.D. Music’s Cruel Summer, the rapper revealed that he’s currently writing and plans to hit the studio with his old pal No I.D., and also hopes Kanye can join the project.
“I am writing a new album. It will be coming out in January, and I’m looking forward to that,” he said. “My stuff will come at the top of the year maybe some songs out there on the street level, I’m going to work with No I.D. and looking to hopefully work with Kanye [West] and that’s some of the major people I’ll be working with, and whatever other great talents that I feel are going that direction that I want the album to be.”
I’m very much excited at the prospect of another Common album after the high quality of The Dream, The Believer. It proved that despite this new age of “hashtag rapping” and materialistic hip hop, he still has what it takes to keep the conscious minds bobbing their heads and some of the new school fans’ ears pricked up. With any luck, we’ll also get some good quality beats from Kanye like he had on Be and Finding Forever.
