What’s the most you’d spend on a record? Well, this northern soul record is on bid for over £8,000.
Avid record collectors don’t usually care about price when it comes to vinyl. It’s all about the thrill of finding the record they want and owning it. Myself, I’ve never spent more than about $13 (~£8-10) on a record because I have bigger financial priorities but if you don’t, this may interest you. John Manship Records over in Melton Mowbray (UK) are selling a mint condition copy of Eddie Parker’s northern soul classic I’m Gone C/w Crying Clown. The bidding started at £1, with each increment being £24. That’s a pretty steep increment anyway but the current bid at the time of writing is £8,072! The owner, Jack Ashford, even has it autographed with a letter of provenance. And mint condition means mint condition. A 45 from 1967 that has never been played? We can kinda understand the price now.
The bidding ends in just under 3 hours so if you have the cash, why not?
