De La Soul are ready to hit the studio for their next LP but they need your help.
It’s been 11 years since De La Soul last released a studio album and now they’re preparing to end the drought. However, it’s not all plain sailing as the three-piece need a little help to get it done.
“For the last decade, we’ve been independent artists, free of a record label interfering in our creative process […] It’s been essential that we find ways to fund, record and release new music. Typically the fans have been the ones who support and appreciate our vision, so using Kickstarter and giving our fans the opportunity to be a part of the process just feels right. We see Kickstarter as a home for creative minds and a wonderful platform; where people who believe, respect and see the vision, can support an idea and make it a reality.” – De La Soul
But that’s not all. The group have decided to sample themselves for the album, using “200 hours of sounds, and vibes, equal to about 250 to 300 full-length vinyl LPs” from jam sessions they have recorded over the years. The Kickstarter is to fund everything from recording to marketing and more than likely, sampling their own material will cut out clearance costs (the right way).
