Alt-R&B has taken hold of the masses of late, with brilliant debuts from Frank Ocean, Miguel and Jarell Perry as we mentioned yesterday. Well, following on from those vibes is Atu, a 20-year-old producer from Ann Arbor, Michigan (home of Dan Henig, Yoshi and Dabrye) via Malawi. The 90’s flavour is evident but he interpolates those into something more spacious and futuristic. Judging by the overall sound of this, “Pictures on Silence” is a perfect title. Atu really does paint a beautiful picture with the silences he’s given, especially on Close and The Duo feat. Soulection alumnus Sango.
