Who said Shakespeare didn’t have “ill phrases”?
The works of Shakespeare and the art of rapping have been welded together once before thanks to UK rapper Akala and his influential series of workshops for teenagers but for today, we’ll take a look at something slightly more comical. Thanks to Brooks Sterritt, we have a list of 90s hip hop styled Shakespearean lyrics. Some of my personal favourites:
“Our tongue is rough, coz, and my condition is not smooth.” (Henry V)
“I have within my mind / A thousand raw tricks of these bragging Jacks, / Which I will practise.” (The Merchant of Venice)
“Thou art raw.” (As You Like It)
Behold the rest beneath, as they art dope. Or something to that effect.
