SONG FOR SUNDAY #16: De La Soul – Tread Water

De La Soul provides our Song For Sunday this week.

During a personal conversation on Twitter yesterday, this song was inadvertently suggested and seemed perfect for our Song For Sunday this week. Good ol’ De La Soul released Tread Water on their 1989 debut 3 Feet High and Rising. Packed with those “daisy age” lyrics and comical story telling, Tread Water really captured the genre at a time when it was trying to distance itself from any violent and misogynistic imagery partaken by the “other side of the game” (thank you, Badu). It’s silly and packed full of classic samples thanks to legendary Prince Paul and this week’s Song for Sunday, so enjoy!
