SONG FOR SUNDAY #38: Bobby Hebb – Sunny

On a sun kissed day like this, what better song to pick for our Song For Sunday than Bobby Hebb’s rendition of Sunny?

Finally, a prolonged period of decent weather in the UK! Those without hay fever will be relishing these blazing moments of glory so it seems fitting to pick a song that goes with the climate. Enter Bobby Hebb’s Sunny. The Nashville-born singer was the original artist to perform the track, made famous by James Brown, Cher, Boney M. and hundreds of others. Hebb’s original is somewhat minimal compared to cover versions. The instrumental melody isn’t as rousing and rambunctious as the soul music that came from Motown during that period but it was Hebb’s vocal performance that stood out more as the track continued, with more growling and raspy undertones.
