There’s been a lot of talk about Giacomo Turra and the revelation that he stole all of his guitar solos (as in he mimed them to other guitarists’ audio). Adam Neely addressed this and the wider history of faking performances alongside arguments against it and why some instances of faking are actually okay.
Anyone who has watched live music in person or on TV will know about singers miming. Some will debate if it’s fair or “right” but we know it happens and it’s accepted. Here, there’s a massive furore and rightfully so but some of the moral arguments and village pitchfork responses are way over the top for me. And, when you watch some of the clips Adam chose, you’ll see they all copy each other anyway.
If you need an entry point into the controversy and what the bigger picture is, I recommend watching and continuing you research if it interests you.
