CLASSIC: Freddie Hubbard – Red Clay (Live Alternate Take)

A jazz classic in the form of Freddie Hubbard’s Red Clay (Live Alternate Take).

Here’s the classic Red Clay by Freddie Hubbard in all its live glory. If you’re an astute music fan, you’ll recognise the original sample from A Tribe Called Quest’s Sucka Nigga, which was taken from the studio recording. That I knew about but what I wasn’t aware of initially was this live alternate take comprising of superb virtuoso play from Hubbard on the trumpet, Cobham on the drums, Benson on the guitar, Johnny “Hammond” Smith on the keys, Turrentine on the sax and Carter on the bass. Eighteen minutes of some of the best instrumentation you’ll hear anywhere.

Stream both parts below and the ATCQ track.
