Reggae might be his latest muse but back in the 80s, Eddie Murphy was all about the comedy. Here, he is on SNL as Jesse Jackson.
We’re staying in the 80s for this week’s Throwback Thursday and Eddie Murphy is our subject. During an episode of Saturday Night Live in 1984, Eddie played the role of Jesse Jackson in a parody sketch of an incident where Jackson referred to Jews as “Hymies” and New York as “Hymietown”. Now of course, this caused controversy and an uproar in the Jewish community but Eddie Murphy managed to find the funny side and turned the whole debacle into a song (in the style of Teddy Pendergrass). Racial slurs aside, this is classic Eddie Murphy.
