European Hip Hop Tour #9: Sweden

Current places of interest

Look no further than Promoe, Snook, Ayesha, Fjärde Världen, Fattaru, Ison & Fille, Advance Patrol, Lazee, Afasi & Filthy and Adam Tensta for current talent in Swedish hip hop. What seems to be unique in Sweden compared to other European countries is the influence from the U.S. culture is no longer as significant; American hip hop is still important of course but outside influences also come from French, British, Danish, and Japanese hip hop, and other music scenes from across the globe.

Prospects for growth

We’ll mention Adam Tensta again because he’s just that good. Lorentz & M. Sakarias, Kocky, Mapei and Abercrombie and Fitch catalogue lookalikes Norlie & KKV (if you’re into more pop style hip hop) are also ones to look out for.

If you have a chance to go underground…

Look out for Summer Heart (if you like chillwave), Prop Dylan, Mofeta & Jerre, Fronda, Organism 12, Highwon, Kenring, Tungviktarna and Ignominees.

In this fast paced era of music, if they were a car, they’d be…

A Volvo – Not flashy but it doesn’t need to be. It conveys its message to the people who already like that sort of thing, which seems to be many, including those outside its home country. Even parts of America.
