SONG FOR SUNDAY #25: Freddie Hubbard – Windjammer

Freddie Hubbard’s Windjammer is our Song For Sunday.

First of all, we’d like to acknowledge what would have been Freddie Hubbard’s 75th birthday today. Those of you who know Tribe’s Sucka Nigga will know the main sample was from his classic composition Red Clay. Today though, we’ve chosen something from his 70s jazz funk collection for this week’s Song For Sunday. Taken from one of his least acclaimed albums, Windjammer still packs a punch as far as jazz fusion goes and the jazz clientele boasts some of the finest around at the time: Bob James, Hubert Laws and Michael Brecker to name a few.
