WhoSampled “gets on up” with James Brown on the release of a dedicated sampling focused website.
The folks at WhoSampled have joined forces with Universal Music Enterprises to bring you a new site dedicated to The Godfather of Soul, James Brown, in association with his biopic. “Get On Up” was released on 1st August in the States and with that, the film’s official website showcases JB’s influence over the past 60 years. From hip hop to drum & bass, James Brown has had a major impact in the careers of many artists including Michael Jackson, Prince and even Miles Davis but his biggest influence can be felt in the art of sampling and that’s where the ‘Get on Up James Brown’ website excels. Tracks with a heavy link to the Godfather of Soul can streamed and shared as Spotify playlists, purchased through iTunes, Amazon and Google Play.
Amongst the site’s features are an interactive timeline, tracing James Brown’s music from the 1950s up to the present day, “Def Jam vs James Brown”, an interactive discovery piece that aligns Hip Hop’s most influential label, Def Jam Records, including some of its key artists and Spotify playlists, curated and ready to be played and shared highlighting some of James Browns’s most sampled material.
