Jesse Boykins III & MeLo-X – Black Orpheus

If this is what they call “afro-futurism”, Jesse Boykins III & MeLo-X are the new prophets.

Jesse Boykins III & MeLo-X give us some dark African visuals for their new video, Black Orpheus. From a cultural perspective, this video is beautiful and rich. The pair appear in ancient African god-like regalia and don’t look out of place amongst it all. The story of the video is about dealing with leaving the one you’re with for someone new. Whether that’s about a loved one or a change of sampler, we totally understand that. The production on this is second-to-none, starting with a warm crackling drum beat that had me hooked from the offset.

Black Orpheus is taken from the duo’s latest album Zulu Guru, out now on Ninja Tune.
