Every year since 2002, the Library of Congress’s National Recording Registry collects recordings that are deemed to be “culturally, historically or aesthetically important.” For 2024, 25 more recordings entered and they included some notable names such as the Notorious B.I.G with Ready to Die and Doug E. Fresh and Slick Rick with La-Di-Da-Di.
Dr. Carla Hayden, the head Librarian of Congress, also said that Biggie’s inclusion tied in with the 50th anniversary of hip hop and highlighted his enduring influence on people:
People are still talking about Biggie. It still has staying power. The songs are still being played.
