SONG FOR SUNDAY #68: Yesterdays New Quintet – Don’t You Worry Bout A Thing (Medley)

Yesterdays New Quintet’s Don’t You Worry Bout A Thing (Medley) is our Song For Sunday.

Back in 2001, a mysterious jazz band named Yesterdays New Quintet released their debut album Angles Without Edges to many a jazz/hip hop fan but the band harboured a little secret. All the instruments were coming from just one man: Madlib. The “group” have since gone through a wide range of personnel and name changes but their brand of hazy laid back jazz fits wonderfully into the pockets left behind by the post-Miles era of jazz and fusion. Our Song for Sunday this week is taken from Madlib’s Medicine Show #7, entitled¬†“Medley: Don’t You Worry Bout a Thing (Live at Spear for the Moondog)”. The medley opens with a soft rendition of Stevie Wonder’s classic Latin number before moving into Broken Dreams from Angles Without Edges.
