How Did I Miss That: Waajeed & The Jazz Katz - Marvin vs. WJK (2006)

Waajeed got his sexy soul groove on with this rework of Marvin Gaye’s I Want You.

Our man Waajeed is known for playing with the stereotypes of the music industry as he discussed in his RBMA Seattle lecture from 2006. His one-time project Waajeed & The Jazz Katz is an example of that tomfoolery. To date, their only project is “Marvin vs. WJK”, a selection of seven songs reworked to the vocals of Marvin Gaye. The EP was released on a limited vinyl press hence us missing this completely. The standout track from the project is I Want U, a modern soul-jazz take on Marvin’s classic, complemented by some fantastic vocoder action and sensual chords. ‘Bout to get nasty in this muv!
