Brownswood Records’ Zara McFarlane covers Junior Murvin’s classic “Police and Thieves”.
We were late to this and we’re sorry. Zara McFarlane is a jazz vocalist from London. She has gone from strength to strength since 2010, when she released her debut EP Until Tomorrow which subsequently became a full album. Just least year, she was nominated for a MOBO in the Best Jazz Act category (which eventually went to Zoe Rahman), which shows just how far she has come in recent years. To celebrate Jamaica’s 50th anniversary of independence in August, Zara performed a cover of Junior Murvin’s “Police and Thieves“, stripping the original reggae arrangement and replacing it with a soft yet sharp jazz rendition. Zara’s vocals are as clear as crystal and equally as sparkling with the tender piano accompaniment.
