As we’re coming close to the end of Dilla month, we thought we’d look at one of the many different Dilla interpretations. Suite for Ma Dukes was a live tribute to J Dilla. The whole thing was arranged and conducted by Miguel Atwood-Ferguson, with help from multi-talented musician Carlos Niño and a 60-piece orchestra. Presented by Mochilla, the orchestra was joined by close friends and family, with appearances by Dwele, Bilal, Posdnous of De La, Talib Kweli and Jay Dee’s brother Illa J, who provided singing vocals for Fall In Love. The whole performance is emotionally moving and so beautiful, especially with Illa J providing the heartfelt vocals. The building strings will probably pull at your own heart strings so you have been warned.
