All-round musical legend Wyclef Jean emerges from the shadows to collaborate with upcoming rapper Dizzy Wright on the latest release from the latter’s ‘The Golden Age’ mixtape, his third studio release and the first since December 2012’s ‘The First Agreement’ (the second part of which should drop later this year). Simple, filter-heavy visuals created by John Colombo complement the track but also emphasise the rawness of the production itself, harking back to the eponymous hip hop ‘Golden Age’ of the 1990’s.
The single is stripped back and sincere, with Dizzy’s socially substantive lyrics covering the loss of friends across the struggle to succeed in hip hop. Wyclef’s reggae style chorus is just the thing to make the track stand out and is characteristic of his work in the 90’s era on The Carnival, which ties in perfectly with the theme of both the mixtape and the video. All round a great track, proving that Dizzy has it, and Wyclef never lost it.
