On this day 6 years ago, the Sampleface.co.uk site was officially launched. When I started the site with Blaise Penny-Kirkwood aka 13e, I just wanted a blog to cover the music I listened to and share my experiences. 6 years later, with the help of so many people from around the world, it’s still here and still has those core values. Before I say anything else, I want to thank everyone who had been part of that journey.
- Blaise, co-founder and creator of the name “Sampleface”. Without our shared experiences, there’d be one less outlet for music lovers like us.
- All the contributors along the way, bringing their experiences to the hip hop salad bowl.
- All the creators who have reached out or made brilliant, provocative music.
- Anyone who has helped to sustain the site financially or via social media sharing. You keep us alive.
And that brings me onto the next point. 6 years have flown by and the site still remains an after-work hobby. I’ve recently introduced ads to help with revenue to put back into web hosting costs but ultimately, costs are paid from my own pocket. Working full time means I can’t dedicate as much time as I’d like running things so new articles may be more sporadic and submission responses may be delayed. For that, I apologise and appreciate your patience and support. I have a personal Patreon account where all money goes towards this blog and the other publications that form the Pandog Media, an online media group I created to maintain everything. If you want to help us and you’re in a position to do so, follow the links below.
Okay, capitalist shit over. What does the future hold for Sampleface? I’ve set plans and not met them before so I’m not going to this time. Things change in the blink of an eye and it can take time to make the necessary adjustments. Our core values remain the same: we love sampling, the culture it created and the culture that created it. We will continue to open doors to that world and its citizens. None of that changes. Our digital size may be small but that won’t stop us from talking about the bigger picture.
Anyway, thank you for reading and coming with us through 6 years of music. Have a slice of cake on us.
