Have you ever loved a song after just 3 seconds?
I think it’s only happened to me once before but this time, I just knew it was going to be awesome and I wasn’t disappointed. The song in question is ‘Time (You And I)’, the album is ‘Mordechai’, and the band is Khruangbin.
The Texan 3-piece have announced their 4th studio album will be released in June with a gorgeous psychedelic cover and a fantastic blend of musical inspirations.
While we/I (im)patiently wait, the band released a video to accompany their first single, ‘Time (You And I)’ – that’s the song I fell in love with after 3 seconds. When you listen to it, you’ll see why. It’s an immediate blast of disco-funk and sets the tone for the rest of the track. But there’s a significant difference to this one compared to previous Khruangbin songs – there is a strong lead vocal throughout. The labels have said ‘Mordechai’ will features vocals “prominently on nearly every song, a first for the mostly instrumental band”. It’s different but good different. Very catchy too.
As for the video, it features Stephen K Amos and Lunga Anele-Skosana making sandcastles around London in classic London weather. It’s fun, bright, entertaining, and you get a free linguistics class throughout (watch to find out more).
Have I mentioned how excited I am for all this? The current official date for Mordechai’s release is 26th June but if anything changes (and things are ever-changing right now), we’ll let you know. For now, stream the video for ‘Time (You And I)’ below, pre-order ‘Mordechai’ on Bandcamp, and peep the tracklist at the bottom.
