It was a joy and an honour to interview Phife Dawg back in October during our talk, we discussed his solo LP (formerly known as Songs In The Key Of Phife) and the former ATCQ member stated the name had changed to MUTTYmorPHosis. Well, we now have the first single off that project and it’s a stonker.
#DearDilla may catch onto the trend of hashtag song titles but Phife keeps it real speaking truths about wannabe rappers over a variety of Dilla beat cuts (placed together and produced by DJ Rasta Root) with the main backing beat coming from Slum Village’s Hold Tight. It’s a welcome return from a legend in the artform and it’s even better to know he can do it without the need for modern music fads or plastic features.
