What is a homework edit?

Beats to do your homework to.

A homework edit is an extended version of a song that repeats multiple elements, such as the main melody or a rhythm section. This type of edit usually includes a longer intro or outro, additional breakdowns and builds, and extra layers of sound design. It’s effectively a remix by another name and that name apparently comes from “the practice of listening to the same repeated enjoyed tune while doing something like homework“.

Since most homework edits are made by fans or producers, it allows them to practice and experiment with different ideas or simply make your favourite part of a song longer without having to play the original on loop.

You’ll find most homework edits used in DJ sets and YouTube channels and some of the most popular artists with unofficial homework edits include J Dilla, Nujabes, TUAMIE, and Madlib.
