As you know, Dilla interviews are rare. That’s why you should definitely get a hold of this one if you can. While on Gilles Peterson’s World Wide show back in 2001, Jay Dee spoke candidly about his work process for his solo debut album Welcome 2 Detroit, his production work with The Pharcyde, Common, Q-Tip and plenty of other stories. Compared to other interviews, Dilla unfortunately sounds a lot more lethargic here, which may indicate he wasn’t feeling so well at the time. The fact that he was still willing to do an interview pays testament to his resilience throughout his career.
