Scotland is vastly overlooked for music that isn’t pop or indie. They have a burgeoning hip hop scene thanks to the likes of Jaisu and Hudson Mohawke amongst others. However, soul and R&B don’t often spring to mind and that’s why Daryl Donald stands out beautifully.
Solitude paints a masterpiece with velvet hues of sound. Melancholy and pensiveness dance together on every track, helped along with carefully considered drums and subtle variations in composition. Because there is an evident mood throughout, there isn’t one standout track on Solitude but not to its detriment. The sonic flow is pure and gorgeous and you’ll not want the stream to run dry.
