John Alex Harper preaches the ego-free life on his latest track.

There’s a lot of awesomeness involved with this track. Firstly, John Alex Harper shares my middle name (it’s a good name). Then you have ‘Egoic Era’, a track depicting John’s distancing from the ego in his life with some pleasantly sung lyrics from the jump.

“I wrote this song the night before I moved to Seattle from Charlotte. The song is about letting go of any doubts or fear-based thoughts I was having. I wanted to talk to my own ego, and make a song that reminded me to ignore the thoughts fueled by it. This song is not only a message for others, its a message I felt I need to continue to tell myself.” – John Alex Harper

The beat itself (moonloop by ntourage) is a fine lo-fi Dillaesque rhythm, free of any kind of bravado or self importance. My only criticism is the song’s too damn short and I wanted more, but c’est la vie.
