I’m nearing the end of my binge-watch of Star Trek: Deep Space 9 and this album has entered my radar just in time. Hailing from Las Vegas, Dixon Hill is a producer with similar interests, demonstrated on ‘Holodeck Beats: Program 3‘.
Program 3 sees Hill beam us aboard his spaceship as he circumnavigates a star system of sci-fi samples. Tracks like the stonking ‘Damage Mode‘ blast through the infiniteness of space between our ears, compared to the smooth cruising of cuts such as ‘One For Nov‘.
“I hope people appreciate the details and nuances of the beats, the narrative structure, and the attempt at cohesion. But it’s not my place to interpret or analyze my music on behalf of the listener. I want it to be theirs.”
This might be the third tape of this series but there are no signs of Hill leaving warp speed. According to the album’s Bandcamp page, he’s working on collaborative albums with AG of DITC and Noveliss of Clear Soul Forces and he plans to explore different musical planets.
