Emma-Jean Thackray premieres the first video from her new EP.
I listened through Emma-Jean Thackray’s EP Ley Lines a couple of Sundays ago and it was time well spent. Accentuating that is the first video from the EP for Make Do.
Isolde Penwarden directed the visuals with an all-female team starring actress and choreographer Mela Murder. It’s shot in a single take with choreography from Murder and a cameo from her child Amethyst. The synergy of a gradually opening shot and a gradually opening composition is fitting and necessary. Make Do’s grumbling bassline takes prominence over searing horns and disparate Linn drums with the flowing movements of Murder.
In a way, the audiovisual spectacle is like growth with the final moments showing a young child as the result. I don’t know whether that motif was intentional but it works.
