It seems hard to imagine DOOM being 42 years old, probably because we never see his face so we don’t know how much he has aged, if at all.
The man known as Daniel Dumile, MF DOOM, Viktor Vaughn, King Geedorah, Metal Face, Metal Fingers and The Super Villain was born on this day in London, England, in 1971 to Trinidadian and Zimbabwean parents. He moved with his family to New York where he was raised in Long Beach. Under his first moniker, Zev Love X, he formed KMD in 1988 with his younger brother DJ Subroc and another MC Rodan, who was later replaced with Onyx the Birthstone Kid, and the group celebrated great success until Subroc’s tragic death.
The group were dropped from their label the same week and their album Black Bastards was shelved due to its controversial cover. DOOM then left the hip hop world for a few years, living “damn near homeless, walking the streets of Manhattan, sleeping on benches”. He moved down to Atlanta and regrouped, as Black Bastards was bootlegged and his fame grew in the underground scene. From there, they say, the rest is history.
So, as a gift to you, you can stream some of his albums on Spotify.
