Madlib previews two new tracks, Hold The Organ and Black Widow, from his upcoming Rock Konducta project.

A work ethic like Madlib’s is something to be desired by a lot of producers. He releases music when he feels like it but still varies his work for other musicians. Music is his life and that permeates in his creations. Whether in rough loops or carefully crafted beats, each project is a life organism of its own. The latest solo project from Mr Otis Jackson, Jr. is his Rock Konducta LP series. Vol. 1 and 2 will be released next Spring in all formats but you there’s an advance shipping of Vol. 1 on vinyl only. While we wait for the full releases in 2014, Madlib has dropped two tracks from the first part.

Hold The Organ moves from a jarring telephone-ringing intro into a grimy rock rhythm that is practically begging for a Guilty Simpson/Black Milk verse or five, while Black Widow is a more uptempo and worthy of a few finger snaps and foot shuffles (with some added Dilla ad-libs). If you’re unfamiliar with the concept for this, Madlib’s theme for Rock Konducta is rock music from around the world in the 60s through to the 80s. Anything and everything obscure from underground Zamrock to German Krautrock and even some Spanish prog-rock. His vinyl doesn’t weigh over a ton for nothing.

Stream both tracks below and pre-order Vol. 1 on Rappcats’ website.
