With the number of features on this album, I was surprised Kendrick was nowhere to be found with his recent “token rapper” appearances (just kidding). But I digress. Toronto emcee J Shiltz released his sophomore album “Still Standing” last month, a fifteen-track LP with some high end cliente on the production: Rich Kidd, Kev Brown, Relic and Twizzmatic to name a few. On the emcee side, Shiltz managed to acquire the services of former half of Rapper Big Pooh and A.G of D.I.T.C amongst others. But how do they all sound together? Coherent and audibly dope. There is always a fear of “too many cooks” in this situation but a common hip hop ground is found for all concerned, allowing J Shiltz to find his voice with a great adaptable delivery, no gimmicks, just straight bars.
