Nottingham’s audio maestro Kareem Jamal returns under a new name and new video for single, “Matter.”
You may remember way back in 2014 when we did a One to Watch profile on Nottingham rapper KJ Palmer. Much like Mount Kimbie, a lot has happened in that time but the musician returns with a new name and new music. Kareem Jamal is still self producing and quite the academic, with 3 audio-related degrees under his belt. Matter is a poignant song with themes of growth and freedom, accompanied by sounds of North-Eastern Asia. The gorgeous video features movement artist Jamal Sterrett in Kyoto Gardens, London, as he becomes one with the music and the lyricism. But in the end, the final words sum it all up: “It don’t even matter / So seeds / Grow trees / That’s the notion that matters / No I don’t even matter.”
Stream it below and look out for Matter on his upcoming album, Nu Nostalgia.
