Outtakes from the famous 1993 Oprah Winfrey interview with Michael Jackson were leaked a few months ago. Here are parts 1 and 3.
Today marks 5 years since Michael Jackson passed away and despite Sony’s movements through his music vault, we still miss his presence. We’re fortunate for moments when unseen footage finds its way into the public domain – legally or otherwise – and these videos are examples of that. Back in 1993, Oprah Winfrey interviewed the King of Pop (his first in 14 years at the time) and during 90-minute special, Michael spoke candidly and opened up about his father and the abuse he suffered and denied many of the tabloid rumours made against him, particularly the false claim that he bleached his skin. This was the first time he mentioned his vitiligo, although this would be continuously refuted without evidence even after death.
After all the footage was taken, videos were made featuring Michael alongside Oprah, Debbie Rowe and Elizabeth Taylor sitting down to watch the interview back. For all the razzmatazz and stadium aura Michael gave us, these videos give a glimpse into his true human nature; his shyness and embarrassment at watching himself back and his relationships and interactions with those around him. You also get to see some of the many rooms at his old Neverland Ranch in all it’s wooden extravagant glory.
