Nicolay’s RBMA lecture from Barcelona 2008 is our Saturday Matinée feature presentation this week.
I’m a bit of a RBMA lecture junkie, to the point where I’ve saved them all to Watch Later on Vimeo. One of them is Nicolay’s lecture from Barcelona 2008 and in it, he discussed the humble beginnings of The Foreign Exchange, from the Okayplayer messageboards to his first interactions with Phonte. But the moments leading up to that weren’t all plain sailing. Nicolay had originally given up music, after studying musicology for seven years but eventually leaving before graduation due to “academical differences”, shall we say. He also talked about his move to North Carolina and his approach to the music he makes. Thank goodness for Okayplayer!
