Meet Ella Martini, a 19-year-old soul singer/songwriter from Oxford and our One To Watch.
After getting to the final of “Live and Unsigned” at the age of 15, Ella Martini began gigging around the UK. Her natural flow of positive energy on stage has landed her support slots for the likes of Jess Glynne, MNEK and Nizlopi’s Luke Concannon. Following co-signs from BBC’s Jen Long, her debut single ‘You’ received frequent radio circulation, particularly on Radio 1. A year later, Martini is now ready to share both tracks from her forthcoming double single release, ‘Dealing With This’ and ‘Story’.
As the title suggests, ‘Dealing With This’ explores the nature of a break up, speaking about growth, self-discovery and the ways in which the self is impacted. The lyrics are firmly rooted in a dark state of mind, into which Martini breathes a life of emotion that ‘Dealing With This’ perfectly encapsulates. The meaning behind the song is made all the more striking when gently reminded that the delivery is from a late teen.
‘Story’ focuses on the dynamic of a jaded friendship. Unlike ‘Dealing With This’, ‘Story’ adopts an upbeat approach to the subject matter with a quicker, catchier sound throughout. Both tracks prominently reveal Martini’s distinct tone and vocal range. Listen to the records after the jump.
