SATURDAY MATINÉE: The Black Power Mixtape

Relive moments from the Civil Rights America and the Black Power Movement through the eyes of Swedish journalists in The Black Power Mixtape.

On recommendation from one of the Sampleface team, I purchased The Black Power Mixtape. The documentary depicts Civil Rights America and the rise of the Black Power Movement between 1967 and 1975. What made the footage original was the people behind the camera. Rather than coming from inside the country, it was a group of Swedish journalists who chronicled this subsection of Black American history.

The footage, featuring seminal Black figures such as Angela Davis, Stokely Carmichael and Malcolm X, was also accompanied by comments from influential Black musicians Erykah Badu, Talib Kweli and Questlove amongst others.
