It’s been a mighty long time since we did a Saturday Matinée film. This time around, our feature presentation is Asia Rising: The Next Generation Of Hip Hop. In conjunction with 88rising, Red Bull Music put the film together to showcase six Asian hip hop artists over the course of three years. They all come from different backgrounds and give their opinions on hip hop in the region as it continues to boom.
We’re no strangers to Japanese hip hop but not so much the other countries covered in the documentary. The artists featured are:
- Rich Brian (Indonesia)
- Keith Ape (South Korea)
- Higher Brothers (China)
- Jin Dogg (Japan)
- Awich (Okinawa)
- Suboi (Vietnam)
We’d also like to offer our condolences to everyone involved with Red Bull Music Academy which is closing this year. The platform has helped thousands of musicians grow into the artists they are today. It has also offered wonderful insights into the lives and minds of artists such as Madlib, Isao Tomita, and Waajeed.
