The Akai MPC (1988-Present)

The Akai MPC 3000
Most of your favourite 90’s hip hop was made on this machine.

Akai’s iconic sampler has been around for over 30 years with fruitful timeline.

Think of a producer, any producer. They’ve used an Akai MPC at some point or at the very least they’ve wished they had one. Much like the Fairlight and Mellotron before them, the Akai MPC has been a hardware staple in music production for four decades and there are no signs of slowing.

We’ve waxed lyrical about MPCs before but never looked at all of them in one go. Fortunately, Millennial Mind Sync put together a historical timeline of the MPC, starting with Roger Linn’s designed MPC60 all the way to the iMPC Pro 2 in 2018.

Head over to Millennial Mind Sync’s website to see the timeline in full.

Now here’s one of the MPC’s greatest ever wizards – J Dilla.
