Future soul is one of the new genres to be picking up some steam in recent times. Some might just see it as a new name for an old style; “neo soul” has been doing the rounds since the 90s, but it does have some merits to it and artists like Beatsofreen are surely helping the cause.
Coming from Utrecht in the Netherlands, Beatsofreen’s Coloured Dreams has a clear inspiration from a certain Detroit producer named J Dilla, with an emphasis on “inspiration”, as he’s taken the fruits of Dilla’s tree and made an assortment of sweet goods with them. The overall ambience is woozy, with some really soft synth action going on throughout.
