Busta Rhymes is joined by Q-Tip, Kanye, Lil Wayne and some hip hop honeys in the video for Thank You.
I’m rarely a fan of hip hop videos with copious amounts of alcohol, money, jewellery and Lil Wayne features but I can give this a pass for a few reasons. For a start, Busta Rhymes is lyrically on point throughout and is joined by the legend that is Q-Tip, who shows immense breathing control and his unique fashion style. The beat won’t win awards for phenomenal engineering and construction but what it lacks in complexity, it makes up for in historical integrity (intentional or otherwise). Hip hop was built on old funk and disco breaks so why not have legends from back in the day rap over an elongated loop of chicken grease. Throw in the sheer decadence, some hip hop honeys and Lil Wayne opening the whole thing alongside Busta and that’s pretty much the crux of the video. Oh, and Kanye does his job as a hype man and stands with Tip with a screwface for a few verses in arguably his best performance of the year. Yes, even better than his video for Bound 2. Just sayin’.
