Themes of subversion in music can be poignant and sometimes groundbreaking. The title of JuJu Rogers & Bluestaeb’s collab project twists the meaning from its pop culture definition to an meta-abbreviation of “Lost In Translation”, which has been described as “a metaphor for the disconnection from trends of our society in general and hip hop especially”. The pair had great preceding years so it’s only naturally that their paths met during a terrible year for the rest of the world to give an overview of events.
LIT sees JuJu rapping on topics such as racism and police brutality while Bluestaeb’s production keeps pace whilst shifting styles with relative ease. 2016 has been a bleak year for many of us and JuJu Rogers & Bluestaeb have thrown some colour on the dark canvas waiting for a fresh one in 2017.
