I love Christmas. I love hip hop. I love Jonwayne. So when I found out Jonwayne had made an album of Christmas beats, who do you think I reacted? The rap game St Nick has blessed us with his latest gift, Yuletide Bangerz and the title is free of hyperbole. Every song is packed with nostalgic wonder and Jonwayne’s trademark rhythms. For the gear heads, he used his trusty Elektron Octatrack and Akai MPC Live on this (if you needed to finish off your Christmas list). What really gets me is how many songs he flipped were already on my own Christmas playlist. It’s good to know we have similar tastes.
But all you need to know is the beats knock hard than your grandad’s egg nog – or mine at least – it’s full of Christmas cheer. What else do you need in an album called Yuletide Bangerz?
